Tina Turner was the first black artist and first female to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. They ranked her among the 100 greatest artists/singers of all time. Definitely the "queen of rock." RIP Tina!

Interesting! I'm aware that Tina Turner did some tweaking and re-writing of the song, which without a doubt took it to another level.  The song to me is quite romantic, a love song that I can relate too. I'm sure there's different trajectories. I never found it offensive. But then again, I never really paid attention to it until Tina Turner made it a hit. Therefore, I only saw the song that she tweaked as a positive thing.

I've seen a movie and a documentary about her. To say that she was "one-of-a-kind" would be an understatement. She broke barriers on many levels, and truly made a difference. 

I must say that I felt badly for her for another reason besides the obvious ones: She had such tremendous success as a solo artist, yet whenever she was interviewed, the first thing the interviewers would ask was, "What about Ike? Do you still talk to him? Are you still mad?" She was very gracious in side-stepping those questions, in fact she even wrote a book about it so she wouldn't have to answer those questions any more. Yet they still kept asking.

Her recent documentary chronicled her bouts of illnesses and it was, in her words, a "goodbye" to her American fans beyond the tour. 

I respected her ability to bounce back from the level of abuse and adversity she faced as a young woman to be this fierce and gracious woman who impacted millions through her music.
